Skills
A skill is a set of instructions your AI follows, so you do not have to explain the same thing twice. You make one by asking your AI, in your own words.
Make a skill
- In a chat, ask for it. For example: "Create a skill that writes my weekly status email", or "Make a skill that explains things to a ten-year-old".
- Your AI writes the skill and shows it in a card: its name, what it does, and Show the instructions if you want to read them.
- Press Save this skill. It now appears under Skills in the side bar.
Not happy with it? Ask your AI to change it ("make it shorter", "use a friendlier tone") and save the new one: a skill with the same name is replaced.
Use a skill
- In Skills, press Use in a new chat.
- Or in any chat, press + in the message box and choose the skill.
The skill shows above the message box while the chat uses it; its × stops using it. A skill works with whichever model answers.
Delete a skill
In Skills, press the × on the skill, then press it again to confirm. Chats that used it carry on without it.
Good to know
- Skills stay on your Mac, and are included in backups.
- Skills follow the open Agent Skills format, so their names are short, lowercase words joined by hyphens.
